Three Mile Island

We only brought the camera out for a few hours one afternoon.

Three Mile Island

Charles made friends with a boy named Alexander. They messed around in a little dingy and had the honor of ferrying the storyteller, Dewey, across to Hawk's Nest Island for the big campfire. Here they are taking the day sailer out in an extremely light breeze.

Natalie had a good week of swimming, jumping off the "wicked high" jump, rowing, and reading. She began to eat meals at a slight distance from the rest of the family, cultivating friendships with a handful of other campers. She also had a great time at the Water Carnival, winning most events as an individual or as part of a team.

Much Ado About Nothing

Robert was Watchman #1 in a two-week camp version of Shakespeare's play.
The three watchmen watch.
"Are you good men and brave?"
"Yes, we're good men and brave!"
"Each a cowardly knave?"
"That is how we behave."

The Value of Encyclopedias

I knew this set would get a lot of use!

Georges Island Continued

The boys learned how to wash dishes in the tiny sink.
We enjoyed touring the fort in the fog. Mom, on my computer I can click on each picture to see a larger version.
Charles takes the wheel on the trip homeward.

Overnight Sail to Georges Island

Our goal was to learn how to prepare for a week-long trip in August. Our biggest lesson: It's going to take a lot of food to keep this crew happy! Also, everyone needs a pillow. This is Thea on the mooring where we spent the night. It was peaceful at sunset, but Boston Harbor on a Friday night is full of party boats, and later fog horns.

Butterfly field trip

Everyone in Robert's class hoped for a butterfly to land on them. Between his yellow shirt and his sweet disposition, Robert had several land on him, including during this photo when he also had one on his heel.

Moosilauke

This weekend was about the hiking!

Gill, Kathie, and Charles took a quick trip to the summit on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, Kevin, Gill, Charles and Robert took a "long cut" to the summit, spending most of the day on the hill. On Monday, Kathie went alone to the summit instead of breakfast. When she was thirty or forty minutes away from the lodge--on the way down--Charles met her and together they went to the top one last time.

Natalie hung out in the chilly lodge basement, reading, and watching Star Wars, while her cough got worse. Next year she's staying with Grammie.
