The Big Trip!

Natalie and I spent the long weekend in New York City. We saw West Side Story, the Statue of Liberty, and rode a double decker bus. We used the subway and explored Central Park by bike. It was terrific! Here's Natalie in Times Square:
This is the view of Times Square from our hotel window.
We were able to climb up the Statue of Liberty to the top of the pedestal. (To go all the way to the crown you need to make reservations many months in advance.)
Natalie's studying a sample "Ship's Manifest" with its list of newly arrived immigrants.

Liberty Enlightening the World

Natalie's friend Hazel, and her parents, joined us for a full day of subway riding, exploring the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and dinner. Thank you!

That's Lady Liberty directly above Hazel's hand.

Less than one month to go before the braces are removed!

Romeo and Juliet: The Musical Comedy Version

This is my first effort with the video camera--it can only get better from here! I figure this is the kind of video that only a bored grandparent will watch all the way through.
I hope you can make sense of who is who, but probably it doesn't matter. Natalie is the narrator, as well as Mercutio. (Charles kills her.) Charles is Tybalt; he enjoyed choreographing the sword fighting and playing a bad guy. (Robert kills him.) Robert is Romeo; he kills Tybalt, Paris, and himself. Should we blame him for Juliet's death too? (Robert says no.)

Winter 2009

Charles' team won the vacation week tournament!

Charles studied the effect of age on chocolate preference.

Robert experimented by adding regular and dissolved sugar to food coloring and water. He then watched what happened to flowers placed in these mixtures. It really made a difference!

We finally found good snow for the flexible flyer! (Ask Gill about those bruises.)

This photo belongs in Fall 2008. Robert was an angry rabbit in a retelling of Hansel and Gretel. He's out of character here.

Christmas 2008

The Mashoonga sabers have been a big HIT.
Throwing all the balls down the stairs was lots of fun for the cousins until one of the little kids got hit too hard.
New animals on Christmas morning.
The skinniest snowman ever.
Robert learned to jump rope in about three days of focused work, mostly in the kitchen.
